History

Two years after it was founded in 1907, the Kinney Vacuum Pump Company introduced the first rotary piston pump. In 1926 Kinney developed a vacuum pump for use in large commercial operations. These pumps helped change the face of America by making it possible to mass-produce light bulbs, radio tubes, equipment for refrigeration, air conditioning and a host of other products, all at high speed.

Kinney designed the first booster vacuum pumping system, and in the 1950s the company introduced a line of pumps featuring three rotary pistons. These revolutionary pumps are so vibration-free that, even in the largest size, they can operate freestanding on any floor that can support its weight. Two decades later Kinney introduced the world's largest compound vacuum pump, followed by a line of liquid ring vacuum pumps capable of operating in the presence of chemical contamination. With the addition of a full-featured line of dry rotary screw vacuum pumps, and a new line of oil-lubricated rotary vane pumps, the industry's most comprehensive product offering was complete.

In 1996 Tuthill Corporation purchased the Kinney Vacuum Company and in 1999 Atlantic Fluidics. In 2002, these operations were combined with Tuthill Pneumatics Group, manufacturer of the world-renowned M-D Pneumatics™ rotary blowers and vacuum boosters, to form Tuthill Vacuum & Blower Systems (TVBS), the sole manufacturer of Kinney® and Atlantic Fluidics® brands of vacuum pumps. Since the creation of TVBS, it has expanded with a stocking/sales/service facility location in the United Kingdom, two complete service and repair facilities in Canton (Boston), Massachusetts, El Monte (Los Angeles), California, and fully equipped manufacturing facilities in Springfield, Missouri, and Bueños Aires, Argentina.

With its Kinney Vacuum line, TVBS serves industries as diverse as plastics, refrigeration, automobiles, jewelry, and semiconductors. In addition, TVBS targets specific industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food packaging and vacuum furnaces where the ruggedness and durability of Kinney products are highly valued.
